The following instructions may be helpful when preparing for your upcoming surgery. Please do not hesitate to call if you have any last minute questions. We can be reached at Venice Periodontics and Implant Dentistry Phone Number 941-497-5591 during regular business hours.
Your pre/post-operative prescriptions phoned into the pharmacy of your choice a couple of days prior to your surgery date. Please bring your consent form(s) and filled prescriptions with you to your surgery appointment.
If you are taking Coumadin or another blood thinner, prednisone or another steroid, we will contact your prescribing physician for him/her to inform us if you should discontinue them prior to surgery. If you take antibiotic premed, please take it as directed before your surgery. You will feel better if you have eaten prior to surgery. We keep the office cool, so dress warmly. You may bring your iPod, iPhone or other music player with headphones to your surgery if you like.
In order to evaluate your progress and healing, we will see you for two weekly post-operative checks. Depending on the type of surgery, healing is usually 6-8 weeks. After the estimated healing time, we will evaluate the surgical area(s) for proper healing.
Please alert the office to any allergies or sensitivities that you might have to antibiotics. You will be prescribed an antibiotic if our doctor determines it to be necessary. Take as directed until all taken. It is advisable not to take these medications on an empty stomach, as nausea may result. For women taking birth control pills, be advised that antibiotics may interfere with their effectiveness.
If you elect to use one of the following oral sedatives you must have a ride to and from the office. Remember, we encourage you to eat prior to your surgery.
- Valium (Diazepam)
- Triazalam (Halcion)
Take in adequate (cold) fluids immediately and avoid chewing on the operated area of the mouth. Eat as close to a regular diet as you can, avoiding hard or crunchy foods which could dislodge the dressing. Consume only cold drinks and foods for the first 24 hours. Warm foods may be consumed after the first 24 hours.
